Minecraft Monday (02-14-11)

With Notch still out of town, there’s no real “news” to be said from the development side on Minecraft. That said- while Notch is away, Mojang shall play:

That’s right, Mojang have set up their own youtube account, so here’s hoping for some great first-look videos of new features in the future!

With that out of the way – HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Love is in the air, everywhere you look around. Love is in the air, every sight and every sound (you get the picture).
All around the globe, millions upon millions of love monkeys are swept up in this, the most flimsy of holidays. Women are adorned with gifts galore, while men spend those last few hours Valentines eve, staring through shop windows with panic-stricken faces from flash-backs of the previous years foibles (seems women don’t consider truck-stop mints and a newspaper “appropriate Valentines gifts” – even if the mints are shaped like hearts).

So, what should you get your girlfriend for Valentines Day? If you’re reading this, I can only assume the holiday escaped your mind this year and you’re in a whole heap of trouble once the missus gets home, or your partner opened your poorly thought-out gift and is now not talking to you. But fear not, there is one gift you can get the love of your life that she couldn’t possibly dislike! (I think you see where I’m going with this…)

Now, with the love of your life satisfied, you can take the rest of the day off! So, what can you do now with all this spare time? Well, might I suggest heading down to Chronic Reload Minecraft Server to see all the beautiful new structures!

That’s right, our good friends over at Chronic Reload have recently held a big build competition to celebrate the re-launch of their server. Each player could reserve a plot of land and had 6 hours Sunday evening to build whatever they liked. Prizes were dished out to the best builds, but as of yet I’m not sure of the winners (will update this article when more info arrives). Some of the before and after pictures of the server can be seen here.

I was there to witness the builds first hand, as I was constructing a new-and-improved Tree Fortress of Awesomnomnom! Sadly though I couldn’t stick around for the whole build, so could only make the basic outline (although I went back on later to finish it up, after everyone had left!). I did, however, manage to take a few quick holiday snaps along the way:

People were building all sorts, from roller coasters, to houses, domes, pixel art and even statues.

It was all great stuff. Check out more images of the brilliant structures in the gallery below! Or, better yet, head on over to the server to witness the true, ever evolving, splendor of the Chronic Reload server (but play nice!) Not sure as of yet who won, but I know which handsome devil should have won (if he didn’t have admin tools, pre-planning time and spent a while longer building…)
