News

With the Adventure update well underway and 1.8 in our hands, Notch and Jens have been working hard fixing and tweaking out new toys, as well as working on new things for us to play with.

notch By the way, I will nerf the endermen block carrying. It was a horrible idea.
I’ll be honest, I’m slightly gutted about this one. Sure, Endermen could very slowly dismantle your base, but it really give the game that fun, unpredictable element. Creepers destroy everything in a certain area – surely mild re-arranging isn’t such a bad thing?
Tell us what you think in the comments below – I want the Endermen’s power back!
notch Got frustrated with AWS, so I made a new mob! :D
It will be craftable, is friendly, and throws snowballs at enemies. Also melts in hot biomes.
Also, they spread snow by walking around. Nice.
The snowmen are ridiculously suicidal, throwing snowballs at creepers and spiders, annoying them to attack the snowmen. It’s funny. :D
Remember that snowballs deal 0 damage.
Sorry, did I say “snow man”, I meant to say “SNOW GOLEM”, of course.
These sound like they could be great fun, but that’s not all we have in store.
jeb_ On my way home. I’ve found that when making Minecraft mobs, it’s very hard to take shortcuts :) Retexturing other mobs simply doesn’t work
I’m not talking about the Mooshroom =) That’s still a moo’er, I meant trying to do new behaviours w/o changing appearance
With so many new features on the go, people just couldn’t wait for 1.9′s arrival. Although there’s still no release date set for the update, the guys at Mojang decided to give us all a little treat…
notch Designing a villager mob. They won’t do much in 1.9, but at least they will spawn with (new) villages.
We’ll do a 1.9 pre-release today, and a full release after feedback. More Adventure Mode content will come in 1.10, we’re splitting it up!
The reason we’re releasing stuff so closely now is a push before the release in November! Server admins and modders, have patience. ;)
And sure enough, 1.9 Pre-Release was leaked to the community, allowing the Minecraft YouTube community to share the findings with the rest of us. Among them, of course, was Paul Soares Jr, who gave a great informative and entertaining tour of some of the new features.

Minecraft 1.9 Pre-release Tour (Snow Golem)

Minecraft 1.9 Pre-release Tour (Mushroom Biome)

Make sure to check out the rest of his 1.9 tour too, in which he shows off The New Nether (Part 1 and Part 2), and the new Villagers and Biomes.
The pre-release is said to just be a taster of the impending 1.9 update, as Notch and Jens are still working on new features.
notch They won’t stop breeding!!!
If you hold food in your hand, they follow you around. If you feed them, they enter “love mode”. Two animals in love mode = babies.
You know what would be fun? If every single animal in minecraft came from eggs. Breeding would involve moving egg blocks around.
Yes, cow eggs. Is that really that strange? ;D
…Now that I’d love to see!
But the news this week hasn’t just been 1.9 related – the rest of Mojang have been hard at work planning some of the other Minecraft related shenanigans.
carlmanneh This may break the internets: Minecraft Cloaks for MineCon attendees bit.ly/mPoYrf

That’s right, all those planning on attending the first ever MineCon this November in Las Vegas will receive a limited edition cloak! Not only that, but the community was able to chose which cape they’d prefer.

Sadly, voting on the capes closed today on the 26th, but I’m sure whatever cape is decided upon will be an excellent choice (providing it’s that kick-ass red creeper one!)

But that’s still not all Mojang had up their sleeves for this week, as Daniel Kaplan has something up his sleeve.

Kappische I just made a video of Minecraft – Pocket Edition with the touch controls coming on Thursday!! :D

That’s right folks, Minecraft – Pocket Edition will be released for Android on Thursday the 29th!
The only question is, once 1.9 rolls around, which mode will you be playing on?

Feature

There’s in certain Let’s Player that I’ve been waiting a long time to see tackle Minecraft.
That day has arrived.

Minecraft – BROTHER PIG – Part 1

Toby “Tobuscus” Turner and his “Toby Sucks at Gaming” series first captured my attention when I was looking up Amnesia: The Dark Descent reaction videos. Since then, I’ve watch most of the videos he has to offer.

His tendency to get distracted and rarely read the rules often lead to hilarious Let’s Play situations that focus more on the player than the game – something not many game commentators can get away with.

This series definitely won’t be the most informative set of Minecraft videos you’ll watch, but they may well be the most entertaining!

HatventuresTackling 1.8: Part 1

With all the talk of 1.9′s Pre-Release, it’s always nice to remind ourselves that 1.8 was a pretty big deal – and still fairly recent!
The HatVentures team are some of the funniest fellows in the Minecraft Community, so this is most certainly one of the most enjoyable multiplayer Let’s Plays out there. Forewarning, though – for all those captivated by their previous builds and their English charm, you may be in for a shock as their course humor and language may offend.

But to a fellow countryman, I find it bloody hilarious to see this style of banter in the Minecraft world!

A Minecraft How To Adventure

Anyone at all interested in Minecraft will be interested in the video above, as this rundown of Minecraft Adventuring is phenomenal to watch. It seems to capture the subtle humor of both the game and the community perfectly, and is shot and edited perfectly.
Everything about it is a joy to watch, so instead of reading what I have to say here, just watch it again.
And again.
Then once more for luck.

Minecraft Tetris

Something I never tire of seeing is Minecraft stop-motion versions of classic games – and they don’t come more classic than Tetris!
